Say NO to FORCIBLE CONVERSION of Hindi!

I rushed to enter Harry Potter – The Deathly Hallows (part 1) movie at 7pm to ensure I didn’t miss even the titles, but was tortured with 20 mins of Hindi advertisements. Well I was not in Delhi or in a Hindi movie. Why the hell am I shown ads in Hindi where the majority of the population DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HINDI. I am at Chennai PVR Cinemas to watch an English movie. Obviously, majority of the audience understood English. So why not have the dialogues for the ads in English? If you wanted to localize, then why not localize it in the state’s language which is TAMIL? I used to wonder this even in Bangalore. Why not Kannada, why Hindi? I can perfectly understand if it was a Hindi movie. But why for an English or worse a Tamil movie? Or else, why don't you just put music or mimes instead of having an unknown language? I just felt like banging their heads with a frying pan, the minds who come with these wonderful foolish narrow-minded ideas. Why narrow-minded? I will explain. For a...

Senseless population - can you help?

After a long time, I caught up with my friend and was enquiring about other friends. I was shocked to know when she mentioned xxxxx was planning for a second child. I asked twice to confirm I heard it right. Well, I wanted to leash out my whole flood of thoughts, at that very moment. But guess what, I had been always unpopular among my friends for being very blunt and lost many "friends". Over the years I had learnt not to speak my thoughts where it probably isn't welcome. But where do I come and throw it. Right here. We are in a country (India) with population of 1.18 billion which constitutes to 17.31% of the world population and we occupy only 2.4% of area in the world. We will surpass China and be no.1 by 2025 says the projection. Is this something to be proud of or ashamed of? As for me, I will be absolutely ashamed of. We will prove to the entire world by 2025 we are the most senseless population. Why senseless? When you crib about the traffic in the roads and h...

Vegan, Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian ?

I saw Mexican Vegan Burger in the menu and instantly ordered it without second thoughts. My OH was saying the best part of Hot Breads is it’s vegetarian. I smiled and said “But I can smell egg. “ I turned and looked at the neatly arranged cakes and added “Besides there is only one eggless cake”. He will turn his face away to an omelette, but will mouth water at the sight of a cake. I will laugh at him and say the same egg is in there. I used to laugh at my Brahmin friends who say “I don’t take eggs, but cakes yes. I don’t see the egg evidently.” Some have started having egg claiming it to be vegetarian. The funniest part is these guys look down at Non-vegetarians for slaughtering animals. They will turn their head away looking at the meat hung in front of a non-veg hotel saying it is gross. Well I suppose they do not know how many male chicks are killed to get in this egg production and the torture the hen undergoes . Concentration camp is barbaric when done to fellow humans, but when...

Addiction

I used to wonder why people who smoke / drink cannot quit despite knowing it is harmful for their health. Well the answer beneath is “addiction”, however one sugar-coats it saying it as “style”, “cool”, “trendy”. In fact I had been even preached of the “goodness” and “benefits” of smoking and drinking alcohol. Thankfully I didn’t give in :-)  Well I think addiction is an unconscious choice made with the illusion of compulsion. Most times they are accompanied by so called reasonable justifications. Addiction need not be just about smoking and drinking. Though these are mostly seen as taboo (in some societies, it is considered being elite), there are lot others accepted by the society. My mother is addicted to coffee, my dad to tea. When I go to someone’s house they ask “Coffee or tea”. When I say "No thanks", with raised eyebrows “Boost/Horlicks?” Next comes "Atleast soft drinks?" When I say no for all, I get very amused with different kinds of expressions. Expressi...
